Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عید الاضحیٰ‎, romanized: Eid 'al 'Adha, lit. 'Festival of the Sacrifice') is the latter of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr or ‘Festival of the Breaking of the Fast’). It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (in Judaism, Isaac) as an act of obedience to God's command. Before Abraham could sacrifice his son, however, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this intervention, animals are sacrificed ritually. One third of their meat is consumed by the family offering the sacrifice, while the rest is distributed to the poor and needy. Sweets and gifts are given, and extended family are typically visited and welcomed. The day is also sometimes called Big Eid or the Greater Eid.

In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, and lasts for four days. In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year, shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year. 

Bakra Eid also known as Eid-ul-Adha is an important festival celebrated by Muslims across the world. Out of the two Eids, Eid al-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, which are celebrated by Muslims, Bakra Eid is said to be holier. It is celebrated on at the end of Hajj, a yearly pilgrimage to Mecca which Muslims are required to embark on once in their live.

Bakra Eid is also known as Sacrifice Feast as this day marks Prophet Ibrahim's devotion and faith in Allah. God had once asked Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice the dearest thing to him to prove his love and faith, and so Prophet Ibrahim decided to sacrifice his only son. When Prophet Ibrahim was about to kill his son, God sent his angel Jibra'il (Gabriel) to replace the son with a goat. And so, since that day Bakra Eid is celebrated to remember Prophet Ibrahim's faith in God. The festival is celebrated by sacrificing a male goat; it is divided into three portions-- the first part is given to relatives, friends and neighbours; the second to the poor and needy; the third is for the family. Delicious dishes like mutton biryani and mutton korma, and desserts like kheer and sheer khurma are prepared on this day.

ইসলাম ধর্মের সর্ববৃহৎ উৎসবগুলির মধ্যে অন্যতম হল বকরি ঈদ বা ঈদ-উল-আজহা। একে কোরবানির ঈদও বলা হয়ে থাকে। বকরি ইদ বা কোরবানির ঈদ হল ত্যাগ ও বলিদানের উৎসব। এই দিন মুসলমানরা মসজিদে একত্রিত হয়ে নামাজ পড়েন। তারপরে তারা পশু কোরবানি দেন। পরিবার ও প্রিয়জনদের সঙ্গে সারাদিন কাটান। একে অপরকে 'ঈদ মোবারক' জানিয়ে কোলাকুলির মাধ্যমে শুভেচ্ছা বিনিময় করে থাকেন।

বকরি ঈদ ধু অল-হিজাহ এর দশম দিনে পালন করা হয়, যা ইসলামিক ক্যালেন্ডারের দ্বাদশ ও শেষ মাস। প্রত্যেক বছর মুসলিম সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষজন এই বিশেষ দিনের জন্য অধীর আগ্রহে অপেক্ষা করেন। ২০২১ সালে ২১ জুলাই, বুধবার পালিত হতে চলেছে বকরি ঈদ। তবে গতবারের মতোই এই বছরটাও বেশ অন্যরকম। করোনা মহামারির কালো ছায়া এখনও কাটেনি। তাই বাইরে না বেরিয়ে, বাড়িতে থেকেই ভার্চুয়ালি জানান পবিত্র ঈদের শুভেচ্ছা। এই মেসেজগুলির মাধ্যমে বন্ধুবান্ধব, আত্মীয়-পরিজনদের জানান ঈদ মোবারক!
